Massage Therapy Changing Your Fascia Shape Meaningfully

is crap.
I said what I said.
Truth:
If soft tissue really changed shape that easily, we’d all wake up molded into our mattresses, have chair-flat pancake glutes (the image of that on those chairs that have a gap between the backrest and the seat... I have no words to describe that) and hammies, and faces warped around your pillow. We would need to remold ourselves every morning, after watching a movie... any of the things.
Fascia isn’t moldable like Play-Doh. It’s a strong, adaptable web that responds to movement, load, and your nervous system (and hydration / temperature).
Squeeze your upper arm (like... not a painful squeeze, just enough to move tissue). It has changed shape while you squeeze it, but what happens as soon as you let go?? It doesn't stay in the shape you squeezed it into (if it does... please go see a doctor).
Massage doesn’t physically reshape your tissue long term either; it helps your body recalibrate, and you still have to be an active participant in it between sessions (movement, appropriate hydration, etc.).
Your brain gets assistance letting go of protective tension patterns with massage.
Fascia becomes more responsive, not “remolded.”
You feel freer because your system stopped bracing so hard.
So nope, I’m not sculpting your fascia. Neither are any other therapists. I’m helping your body remember how to trust movement again.

Now, look at all the things you do every day, and picture how ridiculous we would all look if your fascia was really that easy to "mold".
*** Also... move your body so you don't seize up like a rusty draw bridge.
Okay, make good choices and take care! - Jamie
P.S. If you ever want me to start linking research articles to these, I totally can. Otherwise, it wouldn't hurt for you to do a search... just make sure you add "research" or "research study" to the end of it, or you will get AI summaries from the "clickiest" websites... not the most accurate.
